Via Jeff VanderMeer's stellar blog, VanderWorld, I just found out some late-breaking news about a publishing conference at Florida State University this weekend. If you happen to be nearby, check out Other Words: A Conference of Literary Magazines and Independent Publishers, set in sunny, Tallahassee, Florida.
The conference will feature panel discussions about some crucial Publishing Spot topics including:
"Good Ezines: Where to Submit Your Work," a workshop lead by the web publishing guru, Michael Neff.
"Grant Funding Tips," a workshop that features Peggy Brady, a sucessful fundraiser and published author who directs a countywide Cultural Resources Commission in Florida.
"Writing and Publishing Fantasy," a workshop about this wonderful genre that includes Jeff VanderMeer's expert advice.
Stay tuned for more details. Even though I can't make it, I'll be interviewing as many of these experts as I can in this blog--scooping up some post-conference wisdom. Publishing conferences are a vital part of any aspiring writer or publisher's lifestyle: connecting with other writers, spotting trends, and learning how to do our job better.
