From the Bible to pornography in less than 30 seconds...

Ben Vershbow, one of the analytic superheroes over at the Institute for the Future of the Book has a smart, yet breezy exploration of a crazy late-night Infomercial about a Bible DVD:

"What the makers of this DVD seem to have figured out is how to combine the couch potato ritual of television with the much older practice of group scriptural reading. Whether or not you'd prefer to read the bible in this way, with remote control in hand, you can't deny that it keeps the focus on the text."

Vershbow reminds us that the polar opposites of religious and pornographic publishing often set the bar for interesting modes of DVD evolution.  Strangely enough, both groups have massive, fickle audiences, and it takes something pretty innovative to stake your claim in either field.  Sometimes they discover technologies that web writers should follow...

This is a nice way of saying, "I'm sorry I haven't posted in week."  I'm a bit sick and I'm still working on this week's interview feature.  In the meantime, contemplate Vershbow and chase the whole article with a bit of wisdom from Rex Hammock.
