In an email, ThePublishingSpot reader Britannia reminded me that many fan fiction communities have spawned original fiction websites as well. Here are a few examples to get you started...

Over at Fiction Central, the original fiction archive with over a thousand different readers, they just completed their first ever fiction competition. You should check out the winners, it's a good way to orient yourself to the community.

If you are itching to write something, the Circle of Crones site is accepting entries for an Alfred Hitchcock tribute writing contest, setting writers free to follow the suspense master's lead with original stories.

Finally, for female writers (or the female writer in your life), the Chic Fic site stores women-oriented fan fiction and original fiction. The project grew out of two flourishing fan communities, Laurel Holloman Online and Rachel Shelley Online, and it is growing...
