As long as we are talking about mainstream newspapers and blogs, we might as well talk about blogs that might replace newspapers too. Steve Bryant over at Publish.com had a long chat with Steve Outing--a Poynter professor who just started a user-operated news site.

The Enthusiast Group focuses on niche markets like individual sports and activities, allowing readers to guide the whole show. That's why I spent so much time with the crime bloggers last week. A community will always do a better job than a lone individual.

Let's see what happens next...

"So, the Enthusiast Group is publisher of a network of participatory websites about sports and activities that people are passionate about. Our model is similar to what I just described. An enthusiast-in-chief will guide our site on mountain biking, for example, not only writing about what he loves, but reaching out to the biking community and encouraging them to share their stories."
