Jeffrey Yamaguchi is on a roll today, pointing out a sweet project over at Bernard College. They are building the world's biggest collection of 'zines, those home-made, paper-based, small-print-run publications that have been lovingly produced by generations of impoverished writers (your humble narrator included).
They don't usually make a profit, but 'zines can build the most amazing communities. While many 'zines have inspired bloggers, they are not blogs. The whole thing has got me thinking: how is a blog community different than a 'zine community? I'm going to try and track down some 'zine librarians for the Five Easy Questions Show. In the meantime, go check out the 'zine library:
"We currently hold over 1300 zine issues, in part thanks to large donations of rare and wonderful zines from zinemaker/collectors Lauren Jade Martin and Celia Perez.
Barnard students and all others who make zines are encouraged to contact Jenna Freedman if they'd like us to consider acquiring their work. You can also get in touch with us via our MySpace account."
