The print-on-demand company, Lulu, just released the first annual Blooker awards, awarding prizes to the best website-developed books of the year.  It's a great idea, and the company has a great year--it's a hard time for publishing, and these creative solutions can help writers get work out there.

Fiction Winner: Four and Twenty Blackbirds by Cherie Priest

Comics Winner: Totally Boned: A Joe and Monkey Collection by Zach Miller

I'm most interested in Julie & Julie, a bit of non-fiction by a blogger with one of those writing voices that jumps out of your computer and grabs you.  Julie Powell's book follows her crazy quest to execute all 524 recipes in the Julia Child cookbook, in a year.  Just like the Chinese Gangster Story, new styles are popping up around the compulsive timing and pulp fiction production schedule of blogs.  Three cheers for the writers leading that innovation...
