FIve Easy Questions: Corynne Steindler, Part Two
100_4009.JPG"Wait. Hold up. Did the Washington Post really just recognize blogs as a source of news?" wrote Corynne Steindler over at Jossip.com yesterday.

"We were honestly under the impression that all WaPo reporters were under strict contract to only refer to blogs as shady, sketchy places full of people even less trustworthy than the ones you find on MySpace. Maybe the world is ready for vloggers after all?"

Cashing in on her snarky attitude and the media hubub swirling around New York City, Corynne has maintained her community while sitting on her couch.

As newspapers struggle to figure out the future, Corynne writes for one million unique visitors a month
. These connected bloggers are setting the media pace for the 21st century.

That's why I picked her for
my deceptively simple feature: Five Easy Questions. In the spirit of Jack Nicholson’s mad piano player, I run a serialized set of weekly interviews with writing pioneers—delivering some practical, unexpected advice about web publishing...

Jason Boog:
How many posts do you do every day? How many websites do you read every day? How much mail do you get? Can you describe the process you go through to produce a day's worth of content?

Corynne Steindler:
I post 15 stories a day for the site, sometimes a few more...
The amount of sites I read a day varies, but in the morning I start out with 10-15 standard media sources.  If things are slow mid-day, I might be trolling the blogrolls on of media and gossip sites – and then trolling the blogrolls from those sites, so on and so on until I find something new or funny.

Reader feedback and mail also varies from day to day – sometimes we will get really strong reactions to a posting, and that's the best, because it contributes to the conversation.

New Yorkers know that this city is really, really small, and our readers are super-savvy and connected – because they actually work in offices and interact in society (unlike me on my futon) they often have more access gossip, than we do.

Some days producing 15 items is a breeze, other days it's pretty tough -- but a lot of it depends on how edgy of a mood I'm in.  If I have something to say about an item I read or a headline I read, it pretty much goes on the site.

Tune in tomorrow for the next installment of Five Easy Questions...
