Feel free to chip in with your tips below, I'll print the best ones in a future Greatest Hits Post...
Over at 52Projects, Jeffrey Yamaguchi has given me lots of web publishing advice, but he gave me one bit of promotional advice that I'll never forget.
Yamaguchi constantly reminds his readers that no writer is an island, you will always depend on your community for help:
"Your effort to promote your book needs to be built upon a foundation of a network in which you are an active participant, and needs to involve relationships that have been built over time.
"You will need to ask people to help you out, and it's a lot easier to ask someone for something if you've helped them out in the past. That doesn't mean you should always be angling – doing things for others just so you can get something for yourself. It's about being involved and engaged and willing to help out others, and having those connections happen naturally over a long period of time."

An excellent quote, how very true!
