Jeff VanderMeer told me The Best Writing Advice I've Ever Received:
"The best advice I can give will sound a bit odd—and that’s to get as physically fit as possible and invest in exercise. If you’re juggling a day job and also then going home at night and writing, you need to be in good shape or you will eventually wind up a physical wreck and the stress will get to you."
For the first few months with this extracurricular blog, I struggled to find the energy to write after my day job ended. Following Jeff's advice, I signed up at my local YMCA, and I literally gained an extra hour of energy every day--a quality, feel-good burst of stamina that produced some of my best writing.
