Over at Pete Lit, I found a post chock-full of links about the Northwestern Summer Writers' Conference. The essay sums up all the inspiration and intensive advice that a well-run creative writing workshop can produce.
Just like I said in The Complete Blogged MFA Experience, these workshops aren't for everybody, but you can make up your own mind by reading about them in the blogosphere.
I spliced together my favorite parts of Pete's post, giving you a few lessons to read this afternoon. Read the whole thing:
"Alex Kotlowitz gave a great talk on the writer's life ... It's interesting to note that he never had any sort of great plan to become a writer, saying that a writing career is 'a series of stumbles and wrong turns.' ... Next up was a workshop called 'Image as Story', led by Peggy Shinner ... Then after lunch, it was Deb Olin Unferth's workshop 'The Short-Short Story.'"

Nice summation. Have you ever considered editing for Readers Digest?
