Following Edward Champion's comment "bemoaning podcasting's paucity of radio dramas," here's an inspiring quote from my favorite radio writer of all time, Arch Oboler.

This spooky writer had an amazing sense of story pacing and the musical quality of words, and his sixty-year-old advice applies perfectly to web writing too:

"The broadcast playwright; he must catch his audience at once or the dials begin to twist to the ever-present alternatives of symphony or swing. Resounding musical chords aren't enough; wailing sound effects aren't enough; the only effective way to audience attention is to plunge right into the essence of your story."
