Over at InterMedia, Steve Bryant is talking about how Google AdSense might have a "potentially detrimental effect on investigative journalism."
As much as this super-company offers any fledgling writer a golden chance to find readers, it also wraps our content in a fiendish obsession with web traffic.
Check it out:
"The long and short of it: Writers may censor their stories to avoid being penalized by Google, which often replaces text ads with public service announcements (PSAs) when content is risque or controversial ...
"When writers are told to spend time on something that will drive definitely drive traffic, they don't have time to do the other, more important things. What's more, as newsrooms cut budgets, there are fewer and fewer reporters to go around."
I know I struggle with the fiendish obsession too. Are you worried?
