That's an excerpt from Christa Faust's LiveJournal, a daily look at the schedule, deadlines, and obsessive mind of the writer who wrote the novelization of the Snakes on a Plane movie. Instead of political rants or celebrity gossip, her blog gives you a first-person look at how hardboiled novels like Hoodtown get written.
Jason Boog:
You have a LiveJournal blog and beautifully-illustrated website. How did that develop? How does it help you interact with readers?
Christa Faust:
Internet presence in general and blogs in particular have become more and more critical to any writer that wants to make a name for themselves...
The traditional Catholic model of the big New York publisher as priest/middleman/filter standing between the writer and the fans just isn’t only choice anymore.
Fans today want a greater level of involvement and intimacy with the writers they love and it has become much easier for writers to connect directly with their fans via the internet. There’s a kind of new grass roots democracy affecting all creative endeavors from music to visual art to film.
Look at the Snakes on a Plane phenomenon. That’s a perfect example of the raw power of internet fan buzz.
