A few of my friends have agents. I've met some nice agents too. But, despite my semi-keen observations about the publishing blogosphere, I'll be the first person to admit that I can't teach you a sure-fire way to talk to an agent.
Luckily, I read Miss Snark's blog where I can get the super-keen observations of a Real Live Agent. For your reading pleasure, How To Talk with an Agent (According To a Real Live Agent!):
"Talk to them about what they like to read. You'll get a big list of ideas, make some friends, and come off sounding elegant and professional. You don't need to mention you're published. Most likely we can figure that out by looking at your name. Most of us will probably know it. To quote a very very good writer 'Be Cool.'"
