Instead of wasting our resources on world coverage, write local.
Writing about the highly-publicized resignations of the editor and the publisher at the Toronto Star yesterday, Canadian writer JonathanR weighs in with some interesting thoughts about newspaper audiences.
Check it out:
"Local, local, local: I'll be watching to see how The Star does local online as a complement to its print offerings — the paper's parent co., Torstar, also publishes a Metro daily and Eye Weekly, one of the city's two major "alt" weeklies. I'm sure others will watch this one, too, folks who support the conclusion of the recent Newspaper Next report by the American Press Institute: newspapers can "save themselves" by going local, as Jim Romenesko and Susan Mernit posted."

Hey Jason,
Thanks for the link, glad you liked the post. I've done another following it up, since I found more local blogs to post about that are already competing with the Star and other local papers. I'll be wathcing to see how things go, and change, in Toronto's online media landscape.
Here's the "follow-up" post: http://www.web2.0newspapers.com/?p=73
