Before you can write that novel, it helps if you know your own story first...

Thanks to Erika Dreifus (an honorary member of The Publishing Spot hall of fame), I found this writing contest that will make fledgling writers and historians happy.

It's time to do some research and write about your family. No matter what, the experience is bound to improve your internal collection of stories. Writer, know thyself! Check it out:

"Do you enjoy researching your family history? Have you discovered anything surprising, unusual or unexpected during your research? What has the experience of finding out who your family were and how they lived meant to you?

"If your family history is something that is important to you why not write it down and submit it to our Genealogy Essay Competition."

Dreifus' excellent blog also pointed me towards the Paying Writers Jobs message board at Yahoo. Sign up and find some work. That's two great resources for the price of one post...
