She just touched down in Guatemala, my favorite country in Central America. I lived there for two years, and I've read Jardin's Guatemala reporting ever since.
I'm planning a trip back this winter, and I want to take you with me--with pictures, video, and more storytelling. No matter where we travel, all us fledgling writers should follow her example.
Check out Jardin's stories and photographs:
"Hello to you from Antigua, Guatemala -- where I can hear 400-year-old church bells ringing right now in the dark, along with night birds. The air smells like cooking fire smoke. Twin volcanoes of ash and water are sleeping soundly tonight (this is a good thing), and I will be in a few moments, too."

Did you know that The Guatemala National Prize in Literature is a one-time only award that recognizes an individual writer's body of work. It has been given annually since 1988 by the Ministerio de Cultura y Deportes (Ministry of culture and Sports). Guatemala City is home to many of the nation’s libraries and museums, including the National Archives, the National Library, and the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, which has an extensive collection of Maya artifacts. The Colonial Museum, in Antigua Guatemala, has large exhibits of colonial artwork.
