Truth is, there is NOTHING you can do to "prepare" to write except write. You have to force the first few paragraphs, and writing momentum will do the rest.
Today, I discovered this great little site called "One Word" that will get you rolling. It's a simple way to break through writers' block. Check it out, and just follow the directions:
"you'll see one word at the top of the following page. you have sixty seconds to write about it. as soon as you click 'go' the page will load with the cursor in place. don't think. just write."
