Newsvine blogger Sophistikat just alerted me to a new writing resource in the About.com family--the same writing team that includes one of The Publishing Spot's blogroll buddies, Ginny Wiehardt.
Most recently I discovered About.com's Freelance Writing resource, a series of articles and weekly posts about the wooly world of magazine publishing. The most recent article fielded advice about how to approach a magazine, offering the perfect blend of personal experience and general rules.
Check it out:
"Once you have a good understanding of the magazine's needs, you can start coming up with story ideas. Your story ideas need to be fresh, detailed and must have a point. Do the research and have an angle for your story before you start writing a query letter."
