What's more important online: building a loyal community or grabbing as many readers as possible?

That's what all web writers need to decide. Our buddy Steve Bryant just wrote an interesting essay about these two models of distribution, using two powerful videoblogs (Ze Frank and Rocketboom) as an illustration.

Myself, I think loyal readers are more important than quantity. While I'm not the most popular blogger, I spend most of my time trying to keep my readers happy and finding the readers who really want to read me.

Rocketboom, on the other hand, is out to build downloads and exercises very little control of its distribution.
