Writer Vote; Vote, Writers!

Over at the web magazine Smith, Tate Hausman is writing about his amazing street efforts during Get Out the Vote Weekend.

In 2004, I spent a lot of time covering the election for newspapers and magazines. Reading his prose, I felt that heady rush--the promise, the excitement, and the history happening all around you.

Why write something about the voters or the politicians in your neighborhood? Why not grab onto your little piece of the big story unfolding tonight? If you write anything, pass it along--I'll post the best work...

Here's some inspiration:

"We're putting 1000 volunteers on the phones and in the streets to pull in our crowd. We'll make 120,000 phone calls and knock on 15,000 doors. All with volunteer labor. It's the largest GOTV operation this district has ever seen -- by a long shot. My opponent's team might be staging something similar, but if so, it'll be with hundreds of paid canvassers, imported from God-Knows-Where. It won't look anything like ours. Comparing our grassroots power is like pitting Mike Tyson against a ballerina. A four-year-old ballerina."
