According to a Reuters' story (by way of Journerdism), Wikipedia's for-profit organization will be giving away software and publishing space to community-minded groups.
Writers, take note. This technology is the same applications used to create fabulous Science Fiction Concordances and platforms for sprawling Harry Potter analysis. Now the company is giving away the program for free.
This will be the next step in web building--helping all these varied readers and writers come together to form an interactive community. Check it out:
"Started two years ago, Wikia aims to build on the anyone-can-edit success of the Wikipedia online encyclopedia. Using the same underlying software, called MediaWiki, Wikia hosts group publishing sites, known as wikis, on topics from Star Wars to psychology to travel to iPods."
