If this site was a sitcom, which sitcom would it be?
I vote that the metaphorical sitcom for The Publishing Spot is Get a Life: funny in a quirky way, cheery, and not outrageously popular--but kept afloat by a small, supportive community.
I haven't lost my mind. I'm just riffing off an amazing post over at Fimoculous. Rex Sorgatz proposes that we change the scale of our website metaphors. Instead of trying to compete with scope of The New York Times Book Review, web writers should produce content that cultivates smaller, dedicated communities, the way sitcoms do. Check it out:
"While writing my Predictions for 2007 in Media/Tech/Pop post, a small little idea crept in: we tend to think of websites on a scale similar to that of tv networks -- large, permanent, liquid. But what if a better comparison were sitcoms -- small, ephemeral, risky."
