Writing sucks. You live with long hours, few rewards, and near-constant threat of rejection. But we still do it!
Over the weekend, I discovered Keri Wood's blog, Writing Sucks. It's the diary of a young writer trying to break into the labyrinth world of publishing.
I like her site for two reasons: First, she shares her writing resources so other writers can follow in her footsteps. Secondly, she is honest. She understands all the procrastinating distractions out there, and it helps to know you aren't alone.
Check out her site, and enter a flash fiction writing contest she spotted...
"I'm starting to really like the idea of flash fiction--short, short stories ... the piece I wrote was under 500 words. It is a good plan for not having an excuse to write. Even I can write 500 words without the experience being too painful. Go enter their next contest."
Check out her art as well...

Well, of course writing sucks. If it didn't suck then everyone wouldn't be trying to do it and posting it all over the Internet. Our only salvation is the coming the all-video Internet... Wow. We went from writing by hand (HTML coding) to the printing press (blogs) to radio (podcasts) to television (YouTube) in less than ten years. I wonder when the Internet-Internet will be coming to bring back writing again?
