New York City has been frozen solid for two weeks. My boiler has crashed twice this month and all my friends are hibernating. There is only one reason to suffer through all this--to experience one of the most supportive writing communities in the whole world.
This week, New York writers have two chances to share their stories. Tomorrow, the loveable folks at Smith magazine are hosting a writing party. Check it out: "On Tuesday, February 13th, at Sutra Lounge, we hope to see you all at Exorcise Your Ex, a writing, reading, and dance your heart out soiree. 'Cause we're complex like that. At 7 you'll type and scribble your little souls off, at 8:30 you'll share your hilarious, horrifying, filthy, tragic, or just plain cathartic stories from the ex files."
Then, after you've perfected your ex-story, bring it to Black and White next Sunday, February 18 for New York City's best open mic storytelling reading. They are always looking for new readers. I'll be attending both events, so stop and say hello. Check it out...
"The show begins around 9:00 at Black & White, located at 86 10th Street, New York, New York (between 3rd and 4th Avenues). For more information and virtual sign-up, email joe.antagonist [at] gmail [dot] com."
