The founder of Blue Cadet Interactive has built interactive sites for gigantic publishers like Random House, international activists like John Prendergast, and the Smithsonian (Catlin's Campfire Stories).
Along the way he's won the 'Best Education Site' award from the Museums and the Web, and a Macromedia Site of the Day award.
Goldblum is our special guest this week, teaching us the fine art of interactive storytelling in my deceptively simple feature, Five Easy Questions. In the spirit of Jack Nicholson’s mad piano player, I run a weekly set of quality interviews with writing pioneers—delivering some practical, unexpected advice about web publishing.

In your opinion, what are the best interactive journalism and narrative sites? Where should young journalists look for inspiration?

The FWA awards is a great resource for the latest, greatest sites on the web. While many of these sites are built for commercial sites, they do show the latest technical and narrative techniques.
I would encourage a journalist getting into this field to get to know some of the tools, to dig into the craft of making sites. Don’t limit yourself to being inspired by websites.
Take in all forms of storytelling, whether its film, illustration, music, architecture. It’s easier to create sites and get projects when you really know or love the content.
I am a big fan of art history and current events, so for me, it’s easy to work with art and culture museums because I know the content and have a real interest in it. I have done a lot of projects for Random House.
One of the reasons I get this work is because I read a lot, I really like novels, and so it is pretty easy for me to start up a conversation with an editor on these subjects.
