Do you have a writing buddy? You aren't going to make it without one.
This weekend I'm meeting up with an informal writing group, looking for a number of things: new editors, new friends, and somebody to commiserate with when things (as they frequently do) go wrong.
Fortunately, there are so many writers in the world that you will have no problem finding a writing buddy. In fact, the literary journal (with dubious, wonderful origins!) LWOT (Lies with Occasional Truth) has a program to help you find your writing buddy.
Besides publishing some great fiction and accepting submissions for more great fiction, they have a nifty feature called Write Match--a way to be artificially hooked up with your writerly soul-mate.
"Maybe a lifelong friendship will develop, and, on your deathbed, you will, for the first time, meet your writing buddy in the flesh, and it will be a moment of spiritual catharsis that validates your entire existence (and then Mitch Albom will write a bestseller about it). We seek to provide a safe environment for writers to connect and learn from each other, one on one."

I actually have a writing partner with whom I wrote many of my CSULB articles with. Separate we are good but together we are better than the sum of our parts and we have excellent chemestry together. Writing partners are great especially when you can look at each other's strengths and balance one another out. I highly recommend working with the buddy system.
