That's the million dollar question right there. Oddly enough, I found three different bloggers who are answering that very question today.
Start with Journerdism's epic survey of online journalism work, find out how much your peers are getting paid, what kinds of work they do, and where you should be looking. Online producers (like me!) earn the least, and executive editors earn the most--but I refuse to stop writing!
Then check out Ed Champion's blogged pledge drive, the struggle of one content producer to stay afloat in this crazy new media economy. Check out Champion's winning Brian Francis Slattery interview to remind yourself that nobody can do what he does. Help him out:
"I don’t believe that the world owes me a living. But what this means is that, if I do not find a way to make up this shortfall this week, about seven Segundo interviews with some of today’s leading contemporary authors I had set up for the next three weeks will have to be canceled while I find immediate work elsewhere."
Finally, check out the ever-popular writing resources of Erika Dreifus. This week she posted about six places where writers can browse work listings and then she actually posted about 14 paying writers' jobs elsewhere on her site.
Stop worrying so much about work. We'll find it. You just need to know how to find it.
