I have returned from vacation, and I'm getting some new content prepared.
After sifting through pages and pages of unread posts, I found this earnest, enthusiastic news story about a Flarf poetry reading in Maine. The writer described how an engaging public reading can charm an audience of brand new readers.
It's inspirational, thinking about how the strange genre of flarf--cut-and-paste, Google-driven and surrealistic movement--can bring readers bounding back to poetry in an over-crowded world of reading material.
The story reminded me why I do this blog in the first place--to get excited about writing. Check it out:
"[Flarf poet Rodney Koeneke's] performance was marked by expressive body language and use of inflection, strengthened by his recitation of many poems by heart. He engaged the audience by generously handing out a copy of each of his two books ... [later he] stepped out of convention with a Japanese live-narration styled reading juxtaposed over a 1957 Bollywood film called "Pyaasa."
